Release Info :
Reviews : Debut release from Dialect - and the first UK-based artist on the eclectic & acclaimed Resonant label. Loathe to be classified ‘electronica’ but ultimately resigned to being pigeonholed as such, the music herein comes across like vintage Mu-Ziq crossed with the deep stretched genius of the Din label (Arovane/Dynamo). The opening track is one of the most startling, inventive and powerful blasts of electronic music you’ll have heard in a while - uncompromising, with sledgehammer beats and a nod to the more open-minded dancefloors. The second track is more accessible, marrying an infectious bassline with vocal samples and stuttering beats. Side B continues in much the same manner, making for a complete and fulfilling listening experience. ‘buildings.with.towns.in’ is a collection of 5 recordings made over the past year; the EP is the building, and the 5 tracks within are different towns. Ltd to 750 copies for the world - 12" only, one-off pressing. Highly Recommended. BOOMKAT Also most excellent is the debut 12" by Dialect on Resonant. This is 5 tracks of sparkling electronic beauty, reminiscent of Arovane, EU, Maps & Diagrams & some Scottish guys called Boards of Alaska or summat. Just an astonishingly accomplished record no more, no less. Just proves that whenever a lull comes along in the IDM scene, something wonderful grows from the stale earth. There's also a track on here clearly indebted to German darling of the moment Ulrich Schnauss. Well done young Daniel!!! NORMAN A collection of five recordings made over the past year by eighteen-year-old sound explorer DIALECT. A concept record, the EP is a building, and the five tracks are different towns. The whole idea behind Dialect is to make post-rock using live instruments (drums, guitar, bass, violin, piano) and merge it with programming and sequencing. All live instrument sounds that are found on the EP were made from live instrument recordings by Dialect, and combined with the use of drum machines and keyboards. Inspired by Joy Division, Ulrich Schnauss, Bola, Múm, Mogwai, and Telefon Tel Aviv. INTERPUNK Dialect – Caversham’s most prodigious talent, better known to some by the name Daniel Lovegrove. Dialect’s soundscaped and sequenced numbers merge ambient rock numbers with a drum machine, played through a laptop and accompanied by live instruments. Signed to the Resonant label, Dialect will soon be touring the UK with Folk singer-songwriter Jim Moray. We understand that Bjork has a copy of his EP ‘Buildings.with.towns.in’, and we recommend you follow this example. BBC BERKSHIRE |
